All stands must display the contents of their dishes and be able to tell what ingredients are used.

If you have allergies or are simply interested in what you eat, you can always ask the person responsible for the stand about ingredients.

Dishes with the One Planet Plate label comply with a wide range of requirements. Among other things, the dish has a carbon footprint of max. 0.5 kg CO2e for the entire meal and is 100 % organic.

The One Planet Plate label is presented in collaboration with WWF.

Food in the official app

It might be difficult to remember where you saw that Asian noodle salad that you desperately need right away. No problem! Check our official Roskilde Festival app. Here, you can easily search for food anywhere on the festival. You can filter results after food type and find what is closest by.

Selecting stands

  • Assortment: Our stands present 100 % organic, plant-rich, and global food. Plant-based food is especially prioritised.
  • Climate and environment: We are organic and have a low climate impact on the food. Look after One Planet Plate certification for lowest climate impact.
  • Price: We prioritize that participants with lower income and students can afford a quality meal.
  • Quality: We prefer food that is made from scratch with fresh produce above semi-manufactured products.
  • Non-profit: We prioritise stands that use their profits for a charitable purpose, such as sports clubs and cultural associations, but commercial, well-known restaurants are also welcome.
  • Originality: We select new stands that stand out from the existing selection of stands.

The festival has a refund and reuse programme, which goes far beyond what we know from our everyday lives. This is where each of us can make a difference, and we hope that you will join in, along with the more than 800 volunteers who participate in the effort.

In addition to the most common refund, the festival also has refund on other items such as beer carriers and foreign or damaged cans (nonmarketable cans).

We also have reusable cups and pitchers, which can either be exchanged for clean cups/pitchers, added to your festival wristband at all beverage stands, or returned for a refund at the refund stands.

There are three refund stands distributed across the camping area. There is also a Drop&Go refund machine at East City that counts up to 100 standard refund items a minute.

Since 2016, Roskilde Festival has run the effort Responsible Refund. The goal is to match expectations and create better relations between refund collectors, the festival, and the participants at the festival through dialogue and improved working conditions for refund collectors.

Among other things, volunteers behind Responsible Refund run a back area for the refund collectors. This is where they can find a ‘safe space’, have a rest and a shower, quench their thirst, and have a free meal made from produce collected through our food waste project. We also have a team assisting refund collectors that are out in the field.

We estimate that more than 300 refund collectors from about 15 different countries visit the festival each year.

At Roskilde Festival, most beverages are poured in reusable cups. We have three types of reusable cups: beer cups, drink cups, and coffee cups.

The price for the first glass is DKK 5. Whether you start with a beer, drink or coffee, you only pay for the purchase of the first glass, and then you can swap between the three types of glass for the rest of the festival.

Swap it: Swap your glasses

The next time you buy something to drink – and at the same time hand in your used reusable cup – the new one is free. We call it swap it.

Save it: Save it for later

When you don't want to drink anything for a while, you can drop off your reusable cup at one of the many stands selling drinks and instead store it on your festival wristband. We call that save it.

Use it: First glass is on the house

When you log in to Roskilde Festival's official app as a volunteer, you can see your reusable cubs in your Wallet. Here you can also transfer them to your friends.

As a volunteer, you already have a reusable cup registered on your festival wristband, which you can use when redeeming your drink vouchers or buying a drink yourself. We call this use it.

It is important that you swap or put your reusable cup back on your wristband, otherwise you will lose it and have to pay for the next reusable cup yourself.

More than twelve cups? Go to the refund stand

You can drop off up to twelve reusable cups at the beverage stands and store them on your wristband. Then you’re ready to give a round!

If you have more than twelve reusable cups, you can drop them off at the deposit booths. Reusable cups dropped off at the deposit booths will be bought back by Roskilde Festival for DKK 1. The remaining DKK 4 will help finance the operation of the recycling system. The refund stands will close on Sunday 5 July at 12:00. After that, you can consider your cups as souvenirs that you can take home and use.

Wine glasses and shot glasses can be dropped off at the refund stands.

Water in disposable cups that are handed out in front of the stages are not part of our recycling system.

You play an important part!

By taking good care of your reusable cup, you help extend the life of it. Do not use it as an ashtray or trash can and do not write your name on it or stand on it.

Why do we even have reusable cups?

We introduced reusable cups in 2019 because we want to change the single-use culture that creates a lot of the waste at Roskilde Festival. We use around 1,5 million cups during a festival! So, when you reuse your cups, you make a huge difference!

The cups can be reused many times. This means that we save on the production of new cups and reduce the consumption of resources. We collaborate with other festivals and large events, so your cups have attended many Danish festivals during the year.

To reuse the cup, it must be handed in, stored in a cool place, and washed and reused for other events. It is a great logistical task, and we collect data and assess the solution on an ongoing basis, so we can optimize the system with less environmental impact.

The cups are made of polypropylene – also known as PP plastic. When a cup can't be reused anymore, it is turned into furniture and materials that are reintegrated into the festival.

Is it the easiest solution? No! Is it the cheapest solution? No! Is it necessary? YESSS!!!

The world needs us to reduce our resource consumption and ensure more recycling and reuse. Roskilde Festival supports this agenda with this initiative among others.

Thank you for helping change the way we use resources.
