At Roskilde Festival, most beverages are poured in reusable cups. We have three types of reusable cups: beer cups, drink cups, and coffee cups.
The price for the first glass is 5 dkk. Whether you start with a beer, drink or coffee, you only pay for the purchase of the first glass, and then you can swap between the three types of glass for the rest of the festival.
Swap it: Swap your glasses
The next time you buy something to drink – and at the same time hand in your used glass – the new glass is free. We call it swap it.
Save it: Save it for later
When you don't want to drink anything for a while, you can drop off your glass at one of the many stands selling drinks and instead store your glass on your festival wristband. We call that save it.
Use it: Use your saved glasses
Your saved glasses can be used when purchasing a new drink later. This way you don't have to pay 5 dkk for the next glass. We call this use it.
More than six cups? Go to the refund stand
You can drop off up to twelve glasses at the beverage stands and store them on your wristband. Then you’re ready to give a round!
If you have more than twelve glasses, you can drop them off at the deposit booths. Reusable glasses dropped off at the deposit booths will be bought back by Roskilde Festival for 1 dkk. The remaining 4 dkk will help finance the operation of the recycling system. The deposit booths will close on Sunday, July 5th at 12 noon. After that, you can consider your glasses as souvenirs that you can take home and use.
Water in disposable cups that are handed out in front of the stages is not part of our recycling system. Wine glasses and shot glasses are also not disposable cups and can, as before, be dropped off at the deposit booths.
You have an important role to play!
By taking good care of your glass, you help extend the life of the glass, and thus increase its cup-making ability.
Take care of your glass by not using it as an ashtray, trash can, writing your name on it, throwing your chewing gum in it or standing on it...
Why do we even have reusable cups at all?
We introduced reusable cups in 2019 because we want to change the single-use culture that creates a lot of the waste at Roskilde Festival. We use around 2 million cups during a festival! So, when you reuse your cups, you make a huge difference!
The cups can be reused many times. This means that we save on the production of new cups and reduce the consumption of resources. We collaborate with other festivals and large events, so your cups have attended many Danish festivals over the year.
To reuse the cup, it must be handed in, stored in a cool place, and washed and reused for other events. It is a great logistical task, and we collect data and assess the solution on an ongoing basis, so we can optimize the system with less environmental impact.
The cups are made of polypropylene – also known as PP plastic. When a cup can't be reused anymore, it is sent back to the supplier where the material is reused for non-food approved plastic products.
Today, biobased single-use cups cannot be reused or recycled, which means that the resources and materials are lost.
Is it the easiest solution? No! Is it the cheapest solution? No! Is it necessary? YESSS!!!
The world needs us to reduce our resource consumption and ensure more recycling and reuse. Roskilde Festival supports this agenda with this initiative among others. Thank you for helping change the way we use resources.
