Volunteer Camping is an area where volunteers at Roskilde Festival can sleep. The area is comprised of the fields around Darup Sports Centre in the western end of the festival area.
Volunteer Camping is divided into areas with different opening hours.
- Area Z covers the eastern part of Volunteer Camping and is open from Saturday 21 June at 12:00 until Tuesday 8 July at 12:00.
- Area Y covers the western part of the area and is open from Friday 27 June at 07:00 until Monday 7 July at 12:00.
If you have questions regarding the locations or the opening hours, please contact the service hosts in the area.
Book access to Volunteer Camping
Staying at Volunteer Camping is free for all volunteers at Roskilde Festival. To get a spot in the area, you must add it as a product in People.
When you are logged into People, go to your profile page; find the headline “Produkter der kan tilvælges” in the right-hand side and choose the desired product by clicking “Bestil/Order Volunteer Camping”.
Choose between Area Z and Area Y
This year, you must choose whether you want to stay in Area Z or Area Y when booking. You can only book a place in one of the areas, so be sure to choose the place that best suits the period you expect to use the area.
Area Z, with its extended opening hours, is primarily intended for volunteers with tasks during the construction of the festival. If you want to use Volunteer Camping before Friday 27 June, you must choose Area Z.
If you only want to use Volunteer Camping after June 27, you are free to choose between Area Z and Area Y, unless one of the areas is fully booked before the other.
Your booking is personal
You can only book access for yourself. If you have a friend who is also a volunteer, they must book access themselves via their profile on People – even if you share a tent.
The areas are assigned at a first come, first served principle. And since the area has limited capacity, it may happen that it is fully booked.
The first time you enter the area through access control, it will be registered in the system that you have made use of your booking.
We expect you to use your booking
If you change your mind, cancel your booking as soon as possible so that someone else can get the spot. You can cancel your booking until the festival site opens on Saturday 28 June at 10:00.
If you book a spot, but don’t use it and fail to cancel the booking, you must pay a ‘no-show fee’ of DKK 500 after the festival.
Access to the area
The area opens Saturday 21 June at 12:00. You get access to the area when the chip in your wristband is scanned, so before you arrive at Volunteer Camping, you need go to Check-In at Roskilde Business College, Maglegårdsvej and pick up your wristband. Remember to have your Check-In card and ID ready on arrival.
Check-In at the Business College is open around the clock from Saturday 21 June at 10:00 undtil Saturday 5 July at 21:59.
Access for volunteers’ children

Rules of the area
There must be room for everyone in Volunteer Camping. The purpose of the area is to give volunteers a place to sleep before and after shifts, so the area must be quiet. Therefore, it is not allowed to have parties, play loud music or be noisy in any other way.
The area only allows accommodation in tents. That means no camping vehicles of any sort allowed.
Camps are not allowed, neither are pavilions and tents with living rooms, nor is it allowed to bring building materials, furniture or the like. And to create as much space as possible for tents, it is not permitted to cover areas with pavilions and awnings.
Always follow the directions and any request made by the hosts in the area. Please be aware that you cannot bring guests to the area, who don’t have access through their wristbands.
Show consideration
The rest of the year, the area is a sports ground, which we are kindly allowed to borrow during Roskilde Festival. Show consideration to the people using the playing fields daily by taking good care of the area and making sure that you bring everything home with you. Especially tent pegs cause nasty injuries if left in the grass. Of course, digging holes in the grass is not allowed either and we advise against the riding of bikes on the camping areas.
Help keep the area clean
We encourage all to help keep the area clean. Waste must be sorted into fractions just like at home. Garbage bags will be provided at the entrance to the area, and you can get more bags from the service hosts.
There are sorting points for metal, glass, waste and plastic. For other fractions there will be a recycling station on the gravel area west of Darup Sports Center. Follow the signs in the area or ask the service hosts for directions.
When you leave the camping area after the festival, please bring everything home with you and sort your waste. When we start to clean the area, all left behind objects will be considered as left behind.

Food and drinks
You can purchase food and drinks in front of the main building.
